Lesson Plan: Biased versus Unbiased Samples Mathematics • 7th Grade

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to determine whether a sample is biased or unbiased.


Students will be able to

  • understand what is meant by biased and unbiased sampling,
  • determine if biased or unbiased sampling has been used in a real-life situation.


Students should already be familiar with

  • data collection,
  • sampling and population methods.


Students will not cover

  • sampling methods such as stratified (or layer) sampling.
