Objectives

Students will be able to

  • model multiplication of a three-digit number by a one-digit number using an area model,
  • write numbers in expanded form and calculate partial products,
  • record the steps of the method using equations.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number using an area model,
  • partitioning three-digit numbers in different ways.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • column multiplication.
