Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use a number line to round numbers with up to three decimal places to the nearest hundredth, tenth, or whole number,
  • use a place value chart to round numbers with up to three decimal places to the nearest hundredth, tenth, or whole number,
  • identify which digit to consider when rounding a decimal to the nearest hundredth, tenth, or whole number.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • how to round whole numbers to the nearest 10; 100; 1‎ ‎000; 10‎ ‎000; 100‎ ‎000; 1‎ ‎000‎ ‎000; 10‎ ‎000‎ ‎000; or 100‎ ‎000‎ ‎000,
  • how to round decimal numbers with up to two decimal places to the nearest tenth or whole number.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • rounding numbers greater than 100,
  • rounding decimal numbers with more than three decimal places.
