Objectives
Students will be able to
- use a number line to round numbers with up to three decimal places to the nearest hundredth, tenth, or whole number,
- use a place value chart to round numbers with up to three decimal places to the nearest hundredth, tenth, or whole number,
- identify which digit to consider when rounding a decimal to the nearest hundredth, tenth, or whole number.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- how to round whole numbers to the nearest 10; 100; 1 000; 10 000; 100 000; 1 000 000; 10 000 000; or 100 000 000,
- how to round decimal numbers with up to two decimal places to the nearest tenth or whole number.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- rounding numbers greater than 100,
- rounding decimal numbers with more than three decimal places.
