Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe what a switch is,
- describe how a switch works in a simple series circuit,
- explain the reasons why a switch might not work in a simple series circuit,
- identify common devices with switches,
- build a functioning switch into a circuit.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- common household electrical appliances,
- the common components of a circuit: cell, battery, wire, bulb, motor, and buzzer,
- how circuits work,
- electrical conductors and insulators.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- how switches work in parallel circuits.
