Lesson Plan: Nonunit Fractions Mathematics • 3rd Grade

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • write nonunit fractions.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • how to write fractions using words and numbers,
  • the concept of dividing a whole into equal parts,
  • unit fractions.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • denominators greater than 12,
  • unit fractions,
  • fractions greater than 1,
  • operations with fractions,
  • fractions of quantities,
  • fractions on a number line,
  • equivalent fractions,
  • comparing nonunit fractions.
