Lesson Plan: LU Decomposition: Doolittle’s Method Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the LU decomposition (factorization) of a matrix using Doolittle’s method.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use Doolittle’s method to find LU decompositions of matrices where possible,
- solve systems of linear equations using LU decomposition.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- matrices,
- Gaussian elimination.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- LDU and PLU decomposition.
