Lesson Plan: Evaluating Functions Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the value (or output) of a function using its equation or its graph.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- calculate the value of a function given the function’s equation and a real number input for linear and nonlinear functions,
- calculate the value of a function given the function’s graph and a specific input for linear and nonlinear functions,
- interpret the meaning of different parts of a function given a wider context.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the definition of a function,
- forming functions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- formally stating domains and ranges of functions.
