Lesson Plan: Solving Trigonometric Equations with the Double-Angle Identity Mathematics • Second Year of Secondary School

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve trigonometric equations using the double-angle identity.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • find the general solution, or find the solutions given a particular range, to a trigonometric equation that can be simplified using the double-angle identities (or the half-angle identities).

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • radians,
  • angle sum and difference formulas,
  • double- and half-angle identities.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • triple-angle formulas (or higher order).
