Lesson Plan: Effects of Exercise

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • investigate the effect of exercise on pulse rate, ventilation rate, and recovery,
  • describe the effects of exercise as an increase in heart rate, breathing rate, and breath volume and oxygen debt,
  • explain these changes as a response to an increase in demand for energy.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the function of the respiratory and circulatory systems,
  • the process and location of cellular respiration,
  • the equations of aerobic and anaerobic respiration.
