Lesson Plan: Asexual Reproduction in Plants

Objectives
Students will be able to
- define asexual reproduction,
- give examples of asexual reproduction in plants,
- describe the differences between sexual and asexual reproduction,
- compare the lifecycles of plants using sexual and asexual reproduction,
- explain that asexual reproduction does not lead to variation,
- identify potential advantages and disadvantages of producing identical offspring.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the fact that reproduction is a life process,
- the process of sexual reproduction in flowering plants,
- the life cycle of flowering plants: germination, growth, pollination, fertilization, and seed dispersal.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- details of seed dispersal and germination.
