Lesson Plan: Climate Change

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the consequences of climate change and identify factors responsible for greenhouse gas emissions.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • explain the greenhouse effect,
  • list the potential sources of greenhouse gases,
  • evaluate data and evidence for climate change,
  • describe ways in which global climate change can be mitigated.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • fuels and energy sources,
  • the idea that our societies produce carbon dioxide,
  • common types of air pollutants.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • all of the available evidence and arguments for and against the progression of climate change,
  • the absorption of infrared energy by polar bonds.
