Lesson Plan: Counting Using Combinations Mathematics • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use combinations to solve counting problems.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that permutations and combinations differ by whether order matters or not,
- identify situations where items are chosen from a set without replacement and where the order in which the items are selected does not matter,
- use the formula for calculating combinations to solve various counting problems.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- permutations.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- counting with repetition where order does not matter.
