Lesson Plan: Nets of 3D Shapes

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to draw and construct some three-dimensional shapes from their nets and draw the nets of some three-dimensional shapes.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • understand the definition of the net of a shape and construct a three-dimensional shape given its net,
  • construct the net of a three-dimensional shape.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • two-dimensional shapes,
  • three-dimensional shapes, including cubes, cuboids, prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, spheres, and hemispheres.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the area of a two-dimensional face, surface area, or volume.
