Lesson Plan: Drawing 2D Shapes Accurately with Rulers and Protractors
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use rulers and protractors to draw two-dimensional shapes.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use a ruler and a protractor to draw two-dimensional shapes with given angles and side lengths,
- accurately draw shapes with a given side or angle and measure to find the length of an unknown side, an unknown diagonal, or an unknown angle.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the concept of length,
- how to use a ruler to measure length,
- the concept of angles,
- how to use a protractor to measure angles.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- units of length other than centimetres,
- angles measuring 180 degrees or more.
