Lesson Plan: How Habitats Meet Needs
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe and explain how habitats meet the needs of the plants and animals that live in them.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define organism,
- describe and explain how habitats meet the needs of living things,
- explain that habitats can vary greatly in size and give examples,
- define and describe habitats and their components,
- explain how the weather affects which animals can live in a habitat,
- determine which type of habitat an organism lives in based on its needs,
- compare the importance of basic needs such as air, water, shelter, and food.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- defining living things,
- categorizing plants and animals,
- plant and animal needs,
- listing examples of habitats.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- how habitats change between day and night,
- how habitats change seasonally,
- how habitats change over time,
- migration.
