Lesson Plan: Dividing a Multidigit Number by a Three-Digit Number without Remainders
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to divide a multidigit number by a three-digit number, resulting in an answer without a remainder.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use the standard long division algorithm to divide multidigit numbers by three-digit numbers,
- find partial quotients by extending known multiplication facts,
- identify errors and/or missing numbers in standard long division algorithms,
- solve word problems by dividing five- and six-digit numbers by a three-digit number.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- using the standard long division algorithm to divide four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers,
- using multiplication facts to find partial quotients.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- division calculations with remainders,
- dividends with more than six digits.
