Lesson Plan: Linear Functions Mathematics • 8th Grade

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify, write, and evaluate a linear function and complete its function table.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • identify a linear function,
  • evaluate a linear function,
  • complete a function table for a linear function,
  • find the value of a constant in a linear function given the value of a function at a particular value,
  • identify ordered pairs of values that satisfy a given linear function,
  • substitute a linear algebraic expression into a linear function.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • function notation,
  • substituting values into linear expressions.

Exclusions
