Lesson Plan: Applications of Quadratic Equations Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve word problems by forming and solving quadratic equations.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • interpret real-world problems described as quadratic functions,
  • answer real-world questions involving quadratic functions, including ones where it is necessary to
    • interpret the meaning of the constant term,
    • complete the square,
    • find the maximum or minimum values,
    • solve the quadratic for given values.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • solving quadratic equations,
  • graphing quadratic functions and their key features.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • derivatives of quadratic functions.
