Lesson Plan: Counting Money: Dollar Bills and Coins

Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that we can write amounts of money using a dollar sign and a decimal point,
- count groups of one-dollar bills and coins and write the total value,
- count amounts of money and write the total value using different notations,
- count groups of coins by grouping together coins that make $1.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- recognizing coins and bills,
- counting coins,
- counting bills,
- finding different ways to make $1.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- adding money,
- converting cents to dollars.
