This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use Newton’s second law of motion with a particle with constant mass under the action of constant force.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recall and state Newton’s second law of motion for constant mass,
  • find a force, a mass, or an acceleration using Newton’s second law of motion,
  • use Newton’s second law of motion in combination with the equations of motion in order to solve problems,
  • solve problems using Newton’s second law of motion, where the force or acceleration is given in vector form,
  • solve real-world problems using Newton’s second law of motion.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the equations of motion,
  • Newton’s first law of motion.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • Newton’s second law of motion with a variable mass.
