Lesson Plan: Reproductive Health Science

This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to describe the causes and symptoms of diseases that affect the reproductive system and infections transmitted through sexual contact.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • outline prostate cancer, uterine cancer, and puerperal sepsis as examples of reproductive health problems that are not sexually transmitted,
  • describe the cause, transmission, incubation period, and symptoms of puerperal sepsis,
  • outline methods that can prevent the transmission of puerperal sepsis,
  • outline gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV (AIDS) as examples of sexually transmitted disease (STDs),
  • describe the cause, transmission, incubation period, and symptoms of syphilis,
  • outline methods that can prevent the transmission of syphilis,
  • describe the effects of smoking and drug addiction on reproductive health.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • that fact that sexual intercourse is used for reproduction,
  • the concept that diseases can be transmitted from person to person.
