Lesson Plan: Metabolism Biology
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to define the terms metabolism, anabolism, and catabolism and describe examples of anabolic and catabolic reactions.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall that metabolism is the process by which the body utilizes absorbed food,
- define the terms anabolism and catabolism,
- state that anabolic reactions make large compounds from multiple smaller ones and catabolic reactions break down large compounds into smaller ones.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the fact that digested food is used by the body for essential processes.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- hydrolysis or condensation reactions.
