Lesson Plan: Total Relativistic Energy Physics • 9th Grade

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the total relativistic energy of massive objects moving relative to an observer.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use 𝐸=𝛾𝑚𝑐 in all permutations,
  • interpret graphs of total relativistic energy against 𝛽.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • relativistic mass,
  • relativistic kinetic energy,
  • mass–energy equivalence,
  • units of eV and eV/𝑐.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the relativistic momentum–energy equation,
  • metrics,
  • intervals.
