Lesson Plan: Negative Feedback
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to explain the role of thyroxine in the body and use the control of thyroxine as an example of negative feedback.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- explain that negative feedback mechanisms help maintain homeostasis in the body,
- describe how the hypothalamus stimulates the pituitary gland, which activates the thyroid gland to secrete thyroxine,
- explain what thyroxine does in the body,
- explain the negative feedback exerted by thyroxine on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland to stop TRH and TSH secretions.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- how hormones are produced by endocrine glands and transported to their target organs through the bloodstream.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- detailed descriptions of positive feedback loops.
