  • measure the circumference of a circle in a variety of ways,
  • deduce that the circumference divided by the diameter is always equal to 𝜋,
  • state the formulas 𝜋×𝑑 and 2×𝜋×𝑟 for the circumference of a circle, where 𝑑 is the diameter and 𝑟 is the radius,
  • calculate the circumference of a circle by approximating 𝜋 as 3.14 or 227.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • naming the parts of a circle.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the area of a circle.
