Lesson Plan: Metabolism and the Liver Biology • First Year of Secondary School

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • define metabolism and give examples of metabolic reactions,
  • define the terms catabolism and anabolism,
  • describe the role of the liver in removing lactic acid after lactic acid fermentation (anaerobic respiration in body cells).

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • respiration as a reaction that occurs in the human body,
  • the fact that waste products should be removed from the body.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the effect of thyroxine on metabolism.
