Lesson Plan: Metabolism and the Liver Biology • First Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to define metabolism and describe the metabolic functions of the liver.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define metabolism and give examples of metabolic reactions,
- define the terms catabolism and anabolism,
- describe the role of the liver in removing lactic acid after lactic acid fermentation (anaerobic respiration in body cells).
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- respiration as a reaction that occurs in the human body,
- the fact that waste products should be removed from the body.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the effect of thyroxine on metabolism.
