This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify, name, and draw three-dimensional shapes and recognize their properties including their number of faces, edges, and vertices.

Objectives

Students will be able to

visualize 3D shapes—namely, prisms, cubes, cuboids, tetrahedrons, pyramids, cylinders, cones, spheres, and hemispheres,
recognize the properties of 3D shapes, including those of their faces, edges, and vertices,
use isometric paper to draw 3D shapes made from cubes.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

the names of 2D shapes.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

nets of 3D shapes,
volume and surface area.
