Lesson Plan: Alternating Current Physics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify alternating currents and calculate the properties of alternating currents.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify currents that do and do not vary in time,
- understand that for a current to be an alternating current it must reverse direction periodically,
- identify the time at which a current changes direction,
- find the frequency of a current from a graph,
- find the period of a current from a graph.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- what direct electric current is,
- what electric potential difference is.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the sources of alternating current,
- the uses of alternating current,
- how alternating currents are transmitted over large networks,
- alternating potential difference.
