Lesson Plan: Using Permutations to Find Probability Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the probability of an event by calculating the number of outcomes using permutation.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- calculate the probability in a real-world problem using permutations where
- the order does not matter and there are no repetitions,
- the order does not matter and there are repetitions,
- the order does matter and there are no repetitions,
- the order does matter and there are repetitions,
- calculate the probability in a real-world problem using circular permutations, with and without repetition.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- permutations,
- permutations with repetitions,
- circular permutations,
- probability,
- the fundamental counting principle.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- combinations,
- nondiscrete probability.
