Lesson Plan: Converting Lengths: Meters and Centimeters Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to measure length using mixed units, convert between lengths using partitioning, and compare lengths given in meters and centimeters.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- measure lengths in centimeters and meters,
- understand that 100 centimeters = 1 meter,
- convert whole numbers of meters to centimeters,
- partition numbers to convert centimeters to meters and centimeters,
- partition numbers to convert meters and centimeters to centimeters,
- compare lengths in meters, centimeters, and mixed measures.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the place value of three-digit numbers,
- comparing three-digit numbers,
- recognizing that 100 centimeters is equal to 1 meter.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- decimal notation of measures,
- fractional notation of measures.
