Lesson Plan: Applications of Linear Functions Mathematics • 9th Grade

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to interpret linear functions in real-world situations.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • write the linear equation that describes a real-life situation, hence using the equation to solve problems,
  • interpret aspects of a linear model using its graph.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • equations of straight lines,
  • slope,
  • 𝑥- and 𝑦-intercepts.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • approximating data that does not exactly fit a linear model.
