Lesson: Structure of the Stem Biology

In this lesson, we will learn how to describe the basic structure of a plant stem and recall the functions of different parts of the stem.

Students will be able to

describe the structure of a dicot stem, including the epidermis, starch sheath, cortex, pericycle, vascular bundles, cambium, pith, and medullary rays,
recall where parenchyma and collenchyma cells are found within the stem,
explain the need for vascular bundles within stems to transport substances via phloem and xylem tissue.
