Lesson: Properties of Parallelograms Mathematics

In this lesson, we will learn how to determine whether a quadrilateral is a parallelogram or not and use the properties of parallelograms to find unknown angles or lengths.

Lesson Plan

Students will be able to

  • recognize the following properties of a parallelogram,
    • opposite sides are parallel,
    • opposite sides are equal in length,
    • opposite angles are equal in measure,
    • the sum of two adjacent angles is 180∘,
    • the diagonals bisect each other,
  • identify the following special cases of a parallelogram,
    • rectangles,
    • rhombuses,
    • squares,
  • classify quadrilaterals,
  • use the properties of quadrilaterals to find missing lengths and angles in geometric figures.
