Lesson: Eukaryotic Cell Structure Biology • First Year of Secondary School

Students will be able to

• identify the organelles and structures of typical eukaryotic cell as the cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum (rough and smooth), golgi apparatus, lysosomes, mitochondria, cytoskeleton, and protoplasm,
• identify the organelles specific to plant cells as the large vacuole, cell wall, and plastids (including chloroplasts, chromoplasts, and leucoplasts),
• identify the organelles specific to animal cells as centrosomes and small, multiple vacuoles,
• compare the structure of, and organelles found in, plant and animal cells,
• describe the structures of each of the eukaryotic organelles outlined,
• explain the functions of each of the eukaryotic cells organelles outlined,
• recall that the majority of organelles are membrane bound by a single or double membrane, with the exception of ribosomes.
