In this lesson, we will learn how to find the product of two proper fractions using area models and relate the numerator and denominator of the product to those of the factors.

Lesson Plan

Students will be able to

  • draw area models to represent fractions,
  • combine two area models to solve multiplication problems,
  • multiply two fractions together using an area model (including identifying problems where multiplication is required, e.g., finding 12 of 8÷10).
