Lesson: Genetic Diagrams Biology

Students will be able to

• define the terms genotype and phenotype,
• recall that dominant alleles are always expressed in a phenotype, whereas recessive alleles must have two copies to be expressed,
• draw and interpret Punnett squares to show the inheritance of alleles,
• carry out genetic crosses with X and Y chromosomes to demonstrate the inheritance of sex in humans,
• calculate the probability of offspring inheriting a certain genotype or phenotype.
