Lesson: Factoring Monic Quadratics Mathematics

Students will be able to

• factor a monic quadratic in one variable with positive coefficients by finding the number whose sum is the coefficient of and whose product is the constant term,
• factor a monic quadratic in one variable with one or more negative coefficients by finding the number whose sum is the coefficient of and whose product is the constant term,
• verify that the factoring of a monic quadratic is correct by multiplying the binomial factors,
• find an unknown coefficient using the factored form of a monic quadratic,
• factor a monic quadratic in a real-world scenario in order to solve a problem.
