In this lesson, we will learn how to solve one-step addition and subtraction problems by modeling them with either part–whole or comparative bar models and writing equations.

Lesson Plan

Students will be able to

draw part–whole bar models to solve addition and subtraction problems,
draw comparative bar models to solve additive comparison problems,
identify the correct operation to use to solve a problem,
write stories to match a given bar model.
