Lesson: Neutralization Reactions Chemistry

In this lesson, we will learn how to define and identify a neutralization reaction and how to write and interpret the equations of neutralization reactions.

Lesson Plan

Students will be able to

define a neutralization reaction and identify the names for the species involved: acid, base, and salt,
identify the acid, base, and salt from a word or a symbolic chemical equation,
write chemical equations for neutralization reactions,
recognize that an acid–alkali reaction can be simplified as the reaction of ions with ions to form water,
describe the general features of a neutralization reaction such as the formation of a salt and water,
describe how the pH changes during an experiment,
describe the physical changes during a neutralization reaction such as the release of heat.
