Lesson: Animal Senses Science • 4th Grade

Students will be able to

• identify and describe the function of the nervous system in animals,
• explain that many animals, like humans, have a nervous system consisting of a brain, a spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and sensory organs,
• define the terms sensory receptor, stimulus, reflex, and perception,
• explain how animals use sensory information to respond to their environment,
• list and describe the functions of the 5 main senses in animals (taste, touch, smell, sound, and sight),
• describe the different ways animals use their senses in the environment,
• identify and compare the sensory organs of different animals,
• explain that some animals have senses, such as echolocation, that humans do not have.
