Students will be able to

  • add areas of rectangles and squares to find the area of a composite shape,
  • subtract areas of rectangles and squares to find the area of a composite shape,
  • divide a composite shape into rectangles and squares in different ways and understand that all the ways will give the same answer,
  • solve problems including simple unit conversion between metric units of length.
