Lesson: Extracting Metals Science

Students will be able to

• explain how metals can be displaced from their oxides using carbon,
• write word and symbol equations for the displacement of metals by carbon,
• describe how metals can be mined in their native states,
• outline the process of extraction using electrolysis,
• link the extraction method to the position of the metal in the reactivity series,
• calculate the amount of metal in different ores.
